Vintage Fender Electric Guitars
Fender is one of the first brand names that come to mind when people think about electric guitars. Fender was founded in California in 1946 by a man known as Leo Fender and since that day has gone on to become one of the most successful commercial brand of guitar the world has ever seen, due in part to the fact that they were the first to introduce a solid-body electric guitar.
In 1965 Leo Fender sold his company for $13million and these days any of the guitars from the ‘Leo Fender’ era are worth a fortune.
In fact nowadays, pre-1980 Fender electric guitars are considered vintage and thereby collector’s items of value to many hardcore music fans the world over.
The Esquire – Fender’s electric Spanish guitar was discontinued and reintroduced all in the space of a year, back in 1950. This model has only one pickup and therefore doesn’t sound as great as the next guitar Fender introduced, which was the Broadcaster, later rebranded as the Telecaster. The single-pickup Esquire may be a pre-1980 vintage Fender electric guitar but it does not hold much monetary value, only sentimental value to those so inclined.
The most famous Fender guitar ever produced has got to be The Fender Stratocaster with its delightful solid body and sleek design. The Stratocaster was unlike any other electric guitar ever produced. It featured three pickups, a contoured body and a built-in tremolo. It was the guitar of choice for musicians the world over and has even had songs written about it.
Pretty much all of the pre-1980 vintage Fender electric guitars have a certain amount of value, but the ones considered the most valuable of all are the Fenders with custom color finishes because this made them unique.
In 1958 Fender introduced the Jazzmaster to its guitar collection and it became a huge success with many guitar bands of the 1960’s. The Jaguar electric guitar followed suit in 1962 and after a short popularity stint, both these guitars were discontinued by 1982.
The Jazzmaster and Jaguar may not hold the same appeal of pre-1980 vintage Fender electric guitars such as the Stratocaster and Telecaster but they are still valuable to collectors who desperately want a piece of the vintage Fender action, but cannot afford the astronomical prices of pre-1980 vintage Fender Strat and Telecasters.
Fender also has three other solid body guitars in their collection; the DuoSonic, MusicMaster, and the Mustang. These are popular for students to learn on and have been mass-produced, but they are not considered collectable because they have a shorter scale length and the electronics are of a poorer quality.
