Rare Vintage Yamaki Acoustic Guitar Mij 70’s – Lawsuit Era

Posted in Acoustic Vintage Guitars No Comments »

See the Listing $200.00

UP FOR BIDS IS A VINTAGE 1970'S YAMAKI GUITAR. HOW SWEET IT IS! FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T FAMILIAR, IN THE 70'S JAPAN WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF IT'S ABILITY TO CLONE QUALITY AMERICAN GUITARS. THE YAMAKI BRAND WAS USED BY TWO SKILLED JAPANESE LUTHIERS, WHO WERE BUILDING INSTRUMENTS OUT OF THE SAME WOODS AS MARTIN AND GIBSON, BUT WHICH SOLD FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE. (THIS BEAUTY HAS A SPRUCE TOP, MAHOGANY SIDES AND BACK, AND A NATO NECK WITH A ROSEWOOD FINGERBOARD, AND YOU CAN HEAR THE QUALITY IN EVERY NOTE.) AFTER A RASH OF LAWSUITS BROUGHT BY AMERICAN MAKERS AGAINST A NUMBER OF IMITATORS, THEY CHANGED THE YAMAKI BRAND TO 'DAION' (BIG SOUND) AND DEVELOPED SOME INNOVATIVE DESIGNS THOUGH THE MID-80'S. USUALLY THE PRODUCTION YEAR IS THE FIRST TWO DIGITS OF THE SERIAL NUMBER ON YAMAKI'S AND DAION'S, BUT THIS MODEL'S NUMBER IS 05142....I KNOW FROM THE YAMAKI NAME, THE OPEN STYLE TUNERS AND THE MODEL NUMBER THIS ONE IS FROM THE EARLY 70'S. ALSO CURIOUS IS THE WORD "BRUNO" (BROWN) ON THE LABEL; I'M THINKING IT MAY HAVE BEEN AN EXPORT TO OTHER THAN THE USA. MY SELLER TOLD ME SHE WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE GUITAR HAD BEEN WAITING "ABOUT 40 YEARS" FOR SOMEONE TO GIVE IT THE PLAY IT DESERVES. IT IS A PLAYER - THERE ARE NUMEROUS SCRAPES AND DINGS, THE WORST NEAR THE BOTTOM LEFT OF THE TOP (SEE PIC.) OTHER THAN THAT IT LOOKS AND PLAYS GREAT. ALSO, WHILE BOTH BRANDS DO HAVE AN UNFORTUNATE HISTORY OF BRIDGE AND BELLY-PULL PROBLEMS, YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURE THERE IS NO "YAMAKI DISEASE". IT IS TUNED TO E, WITH NEW LIGHT-GAUGE MARTIN STRINGS. YOU CAN TUNE IT TO DROP-D OR TO D WITH A CAPO TO MINIMIZE STRESS. OR DO WHAT I DID WITH MY PRIZE DAION, AND GET A JDL BRIDGE SYSTEM - COSTS ABOUT $30, AND YOU CAN INSTALL IT YOURSELF (WITH THE BRIDGE HOLES: NO DRILLING OR CUTTING. AT NO WORRIES! LOW STARTING PRICE AND NO RESERVE. $50 SHIPPING AND HANDLING BY GROUND TO LOWER-48 USA. THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Washburn Style A Guitar Made By Lyon And Healy Made In The Mid 1920’s

Posted in Acoustic Vintage Guitars No Comments »

See the Listing $3000.00

Hi and thanks for looking at my auction. Here is a Washburn style A guitar made by Lyon and Healy in the mid 1920’s. This is a nicely restored example of the last of the top of line Lyon & Healy made for Washburn, with a spruce top, and rosewood sides and back, ebony fretboard, and replaced proper size smile bridge, pearl dots in the 5th, 7th, 10th(!), & 12th positions. An elaborate floral pearl inlay graces the peghead, and the L& H gold leaf pattern (as on their concert harps) is on laid under the original finish. The headstock, sides, back and top have been oversprayed and refinished professionally with nitro cellulose lacquer. Some other repairs include: top seam reglue, reglued braces, extra top reinforcement, very nice period replacement tuners, and added pickguard. This guitar is beautifully playable; a subtle feature is the sloping fingerboard sides – very comfortable. The nut width is 1 13/16”ths scale length is 24 11/16”ths. Action at the 12th fret is about a little less then 1/8”th on the bass side and a little less on the treble side. Saddle height is 1/8th”. Very similar in concept with a late 20’s Martin 00-28 in size and material it is a very fine finger stylists guitar. The guitar has a very nicely balanced tone with a rich bass and sparkling highs. I have a Saga red line case for the guitar . The case is in fair shape. One latch is broken and 1 hinge is bent but it does the job and it is lightweight. Any questions please email me.

This was achieved by replacing the original nut and saddle so that the action could be lowered. Plus, the original fret board, which had bar frets ground flat to make them level with the fret board (and had snowflake inlays and was unbound), was replaced with the fret board seen on it, which has raised frets, dot inlays, and is bound. The original nut, saddle, and fret board are not included with this guitar.*** The Sound of this guitar is unbelievable! It has incredible projection but is also very warm. The action is quite good. A perfect choice for someone who wants a vintage 00 with Brazilian rosewood but doesn't want to spend $20,000.00 or more! There are 3 obvious holes in the top of the body and 2 more in the bridge that are holding an aftermarket pick-up in place (this pick-up does not work). The bridge is missing its treble side inlay. There are a couple of small, but deep gashes in the top, one about 1/3" long on the bass side about 1-3/8" from the bottom binding and the other 1/1/4" long at the bottom center right next to the binding. A few other small dings and dents as well as a considerable amount of scuff marks and scratches can be seen on the top, back, and sides. Plenty of lacquer wear is also visible on the top, back, and sides of the body. Scuff marks and scratches can be see on the pick guard and bridge, plus some small indentations can be seen on the pick guard. The top and back body binding show some heavy discoloration. The bridge is firmly attached to the top and is not lifting or pulling off of the body. The neck shows similar scuff marks and scratches as those found on the body, plus almost all of the lacquer has been worn away leaving just the bare wood. A couple of small indentations can be also be seen on the back of the neck and on the neck heel. The fret board just has some scuff marks on it; the fret board binding and the nut are a little discolored looking. The same kind of scuff marks and scratches found on the neck can be seen on the headstock also. There are some small cracks in the wood extending from some of the screws holding the tuners in place. Plus the front, back, and sides of the head stock show some lacquer wear, but not near as much as the neck. The tuning machines are a bit rusted looking, but still work, and the buttons are a little discolored. The frets show moderate-heavy wear with some small grooves on the lower frets, however they play fine and do not fret out. As mentioned earlier, the installed pick-up does not work and the bottom strap-button jack appears to be missing a screw--the wires inside the body are intact, however they have been taped down inside to keep from rattling around. The neck is straight and the action on this guitar is medium. This guitar plays amazingly well and sounds spectacular! Features ***The original ebony bridge and the original tuners have been replaced and are not included with this guitar.*** Hawaiian-style guitar converted to regular playing style Adirondack spruce top Brazilian rosewood back and sides Mahogany neck Non-original rosewood fret board 20 frets; 12 frets to the body Non-original open-gear tuners with white plastic buttons Non-original rosewood bridge 14-1/4" body width at lower bout 10" body width at upper bout 3-1/4" to 4" body depth 24-3/4" scale 1-7/8" nut width 2-3/8" width at 12th fret This is a great sounding guitar, considering its age and its lovely vintage scars, that has the tone and comfort that has kept Martin around all these (and certainly many more!!) years! 1950 Martin D-28 Brazilian Rosewood

1950 Martin D-28, serial number 117370. Most Beautiful and tightest grain Brazilian Rosewood I've ever seen. It has an incredible warm and rich vintage tone, with booming sound and great lower register. All original body, bridge, pick guard and tuners. There is a professional repaired crack at the bottom of the pickguard. The pickguard was lifted Humidified, and the crack repaired and cleated from below. The guitar had a neck reset done a little over a year ago. There is normal pick wear below the pickguard. Waffle back tuners original to the period. It does have a couple scratches which would be expected from a 60 year old guitar. E-mail me with questions. Same guitar that is in "The 42 guitar index" below: http://www.jacksonsrareguitars.com/articles/files/65e6824a09fe1d121b93ce1eafa84ec2-5.html http://www.forbes.com/sites/emilylambert/2011/12/13/the-five-best-vintage-guitar-deals/
